After several years delay (!), I finally completed my sidelined top-end rebuild. All new parts (Wossner piston kit), all machine work sent out to a first-class machinist, 1mm over bore, new valves, cam sprockets, cam chain, etc. Set cam timing meticulously. Before reassembly, I checked the big-e...
Ok. My TTR has developed an annoying habit. It has cut out a dozen times at idle over the past few weeks, so I'm asking for ideas on what might be causing it. Today I took it for a 10-15 minute urban run at 30-40 mph, a 2 mile return trip up a dual carriage way at +60 mph, and finished off with start / stop, 1/4 mil...
After doing the starter clutch & kick starter, I re-fitted the exhaust, as you do. Got the torque wrench onto the exhaust studs and it wouldn't tighten even on about 8 lb.ft. Oh well, **** happens. Any interim repair, other than helicoil? I have a spare head that I will have serviced and fit so I c...
Having ridden twice since owning, since October 22, I've realized I'm not going to get the urge anytime soon. 1997 Yamaha TTR250 Raid, so has the larger metal tank and working headlight. 88832km on last mot which is valid to 6/11/25. Currently charging battery, was weak at MOT due to standing, can't r...
My original clocks are heavy and prone to getting smashed so here's may solution. A sheet of black nylon bolted to the standard mountings. Completely ditched the speedo drive that kept failing anyway, just kept the housing on the front axle, nothing inside it. Orange LEDs on L side are day and nigh...
I was trying to find some thorough details on fitting an oil cooler. It's pretty messy in here, with half a dozen different threads which either drop off unfinished, or don't really give sufficient information. What I've gathered so far is that there is one bolt, located inside the clutch cover, tha...

I am now the owner of PO55 OTS; and very happy with this lovely bike - apart from the mystery of the disappearing oil! There is no evidence of oil leaking, it does not smoke but at the end of every ride ( usually about 50 miles of gentle, Cornish lanes) I have to add at least 100ml of oil just to get the level vis...

Hey all, My bike started running rough, bogging quite badly. Took it to a professional who said the rubber joint between the carb and engine neeeded replacing. Hello, I’m busy renovating my 1995 TTR 250 Raid which I have been using for classic enduros and TRF green laning here in Northumberland. Stripped top end today and find a small amount of rocking play at the small end. I will order a new gudgeon pin first, but I suspect I may need a new con rod. How much play...
Well owners have been waiting ages for the latest batch of 6 kits and we have had a bit of a disaster The machinist has started (at last) to work on the barrels and has found 2 of them have not been cast correctly, this means we will only have 4 kits available. I will be emailing all 6 owners, to see if anyone w...

Hi a bit of info that may help some one I have found Yamaha online parts Australia, they're in Sydney and post parts. it's easy to look up the parts and add them to your cart purchase and have them posted. it saves me the 180km round trip to the nearest Yamaha dealer. (found it easier to find the TTR puttin...
Thanks for having me. I live near York and have just bought a 250 Raid on a Q plate, with a lot of receipts for work done over the last few years. What I'd really like to do is find some history for it before it was SVA'd in 2006 Anyway I imagine I'll have a lot of questions and will try to contribute when I can. I...
