One reason I decided to prep a Yamaha ttr250 for the backroads of the NW USA was lack of quality gas I often encountered while riding my KTM 500. I carried octane booster for the 500 and so far I don't think the engine has suffered, but for sure 87 octane fuel runs like crap in the KTM. I am hoping the ttr2...
I happened to use the TTR to commute to work early one morning (about 5 am--dark) last week and I noticed that the header pipe got a pretty bright red while warming up with the choke on. After easing off the choke and riding the bike with normal throttle, I leaned over and saw that the exhaust header conti...
OK IMA JUST SPIT IT IM THINKING ABOUT INJECTING NITROUS INTO THE TTR I BELIVE THIS BIKE WAS EAGERLY BUILT BY YAMAHA FOR THIS EXACT REASON THEIR ARE 2 PORTS YOU CAN CLEARLY INJECT SOMETHING INTO THIS PIG AND THATS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CARB AND THE TOP OF THE SECOND INTAKE PIPE WHERE THE SMOG BULL**** IS IM...

5 minutes into my ride I made the mistake of trying to ride between an atv's mud ruts. Slid into a foot (30.48 cm) deep rut of wet muddy clay. Took about 45 mins to get out.
Hey guys my fuel tank cap is seized I'm not sure if its rusted to the tank or if the locking mechanism on the cap is seized i can turn the cap with some effort but if i put the key in and and try to turn it just risks breaking the key the tank. I found this TTR 250 Forum and its been a great help in turning a rough 2005 into a dual sport bike.................in my world, thats riding hundreds of miles of dirt back roads for a few days, or sometimes just an after noon. I sent Brian pictures of what my riding pals and I do when the snow is on the grou...
Although you may not have noticed I wasn't around Just back from a fortnight swanning around la belle France in the car with my brother-in-law Keith following (sometimes) on his Ducati Monster Did over 2,000 miles in a fortnight (able to put the top down for quite a lot of the time) and saw a lot of the co...
Hello, Just joined the forum, some good stuff. I normally live in Scotland but am currently travelling around NZ with my partner on our two TTR's. A blue 2014 and a White 1996. Back in Scotland we normally ride a 1992 XT600 and a 1992 Serow 225. We picked up our TTR's in NZ, both totally standard when we go...
I picked up a TTR today. I needed a "cheap" bike to use as a commuter through the winter. My TTR won't win any beauty contests, but it did make it from Bude to Plymouth through storm Brian. If nothing falls off or breaks over the next few weeks I'll try to give it a clean and a rattle-can paint job and post some...
Long story short, a few years ago I bought a cheap well used Raid to go greenlaning, but as usual my OCD of having things "right" got the better of me and I wanted it stripping down powdercoating/painting and putting back together. There was no issue with the bike other than it was scruffy because it was u...
Hi all, I'm new to the forum - I've got a 2002 TTR250 which has developed a bit of a cold starting problem. Essentially, I usually turn the fuel on, choke out, then use the electric start and it fires up after a couple of seconds holding the button. Recently though, it just turns over and will not fire up f...
I am busy reading the repairs thread - finished the carb one earlier. I have an odd issue. It only happens in 6th gear, usually while overtaking a car. I will be going strong, when all of a sudden I get a splutter in the revs, almost like running out of fuel. When I change to 5th, I can rev strongly with no h...
The Missus just passed her competency test for pre learners (Tasmania) and is keen to start riding the TTR to work so i was wondering if anyone knew how to lock up the tank for some added security, more concerened about vandals and skanky additives than pilfered fuel. Fuel is easy to replace. Probably...
hello all , does anyone know of a comfortable seat I can buy fir my blue ttr , I took it out yesterday for ride up to the ABR rally at Banbury , really pleased with the little bike , I did bin it on the enduro course forgetting I wasn't on my xt660 and didn't give it enough beans up a very steep hill , almost made it...
Hi All, I'm looking for a replacement fuel tank, mine has cracked somehow, and repair is not an option. Please let me know if you'd have one hanging around. Thank you in advance!
I just started a TTR 250 restore transformation. !st was check the valves. Lots of incorrect information out there about the TTR 250 head. Its a YZ bucket and shim over valve under the cam, nice and simple, same shims as all the YZ and I would guess many road bikes. 5,000 unknown miles on my bike each v...
A group of us did some great trails in Normandy last week. We stayed at Paul Barons place who runs Dirt bike tours , had a great time , two of us riding TTRs. The little bikes never missed a beat and coped with everything we could throw at them from rocks to mud , steep slippery climbs and water.
I dug the USD forks out & took few numbers for the conversion into the TTR.... It turns out the 05 YZF250 USD forks use the same ID bearings as the TTR... 28mm Top / 30mm bottom... Even the steering stops look to be in about the right place.. The YZF forks are 40mm longer but theres enough un-tapperd are...

On my way to meet up with some mates for a trail ride earlier in the week, there was a death rattle coming from the 325 that prompted me to turn around and head back about 3 miles from home. Really disappointing as I don't get out much these days and the ride was in the Dawlish area and haven't ridden those lan...
