On my way to meet up with some mates for a trail ride earlier in the week, there was a death rattle coming from the 325 that prompted me to turn around and head back about 3 miles from home.
Really disappointing as I don't get out much these days and the ride was in the Dawlish area and haven't ridden those lanes in years
The rattle wasn't constant and I had heard it the previous day when taking the TTR for a test run and filling up. The noise sounded similar to when a bolt had dropped into the bashplate but I had taken that off and nothing there. I guess I was just hoping the noise would magically go away
I came to the conclusion that something had dropped into the engine so, after trying not to think about it for a few days, I bit the bullet and got the TTR on the operating table this morning and started to strip it down to see what was going on in the engine.
I got as far as taking off the frame sidebar and noticed the upper chain roller was missing.
The amount of wear on the bolt is such that I have no doubt that my rattle was coming from the chain hitting it!
So, it's a nice simple fix and another reminder to self not to always think the worst and look for loose or missing frame/cycle parts before assuming a rattle is coming from the engine/gearbox
Well last weekend I thought my engine had expired. Smoke coming out of exhaust, bad engine noises under load, smoke appearing as though it was coming out of front of cylinder head.
Then remembered I had just filled up with fuel. Came to the conclusion I had put diesel in... about £6 worth. So rode the 20 miles home.... made it. Drained the tank... filled with petrol... rode 5 miles and all is well again.
Suppose it was better than putting £50 of petrol in the (diesel) car...
