1996 ttr250 plastic intake/carb sleeve issue
(Preview)
Hi all. I now own a 1996 ttr250 and I really like it. I do have an issue with it tho. There is a black plastic sleeve that connects the carb to the head. I've noticed that it looks perished and bits falling off it. (On the head side) the engine ticks over okay but eventually it will make a big POP then cut out. I'...

rear shock guard
(Preview)
as my bike is fairly new to me the previous owner cobbled up a rubber flap type thingy bob to protect the rear shock which worked fine until the fitting of a new ac10 tyre which after a ride in the peak district is now destroyed, my question is can you get a replacement or is it a Yamaha part only ? Ive tried pol...

Rear Shock - Rebound Adjuster not clicking and other issues
(Preview)
Hi, I am trying to put the settings back to the standard setting, and the rebound adjuster says it should be "9 Clicks out". I have got myself confused and now wonder which direction "out" means. Is it out away from the spring, or out away from the lower mounting? Sorry if this is yet another daft quest...

Kart 250cc engine the same as the TTR engine?
(Preview)
Hi, The TTR was never a bike made in large numbers, therefore the availability of parts is not great. Over the last years i have been always looking for some other yamaha machine that could share the same engine, and therefore possibly extend the sources for parts. It seems like i found it! Found a yamah...

Kick start lever travel stop
(Preview)
Hi and a happy new year to you all, Can anyone tell me what stops the kick start lever at the end of its travel when you kick down on it? On a friends blue tank model TTR250 the lever stops just before reaching the riders foot peg holder. I have the same model but my lever slams into the foot peg holder, and wh...

Exhaust repair
(Preview)
My b-i-l Keith's exhaust fractured between the header pipe and mount. He managed to repair it using a small length of flexible exhaust pipe with an inner diameter of just over 41mm. This meant he could use a standard TTR graphite exhaust gasket at each end. Ideally he needs smaller clamps. Not sure tha...

rear coil spring rate?
(Preview)
Greetings, I have a 2001 US model with the OE yellow spring. The FAQ states: "standard OE yellow springs have a spring rate of 4.9 kgs/mm - allegedly!" . https://www.racetech.com/ProductSearch/12/Yamaha/TTR250/2001

Dual sport tyres
(Preview)
Hi all, as some of you may know I have both a WRR & TTR well I'm thinking of going back to dual sport tyres on the TTR to use on the gravel rds & the twisty black top. Will keep MT21's on the WRR so I don't really need lots of grip in the mud for the TTR. Has anyone tried of know of these tyresMaxxis M6006 12...

No start on the button.
(Preview)
The alarm on my TTR drains the battery so I wired in a permanent plug to connect a Ni-Cad jump starter. It never fails to boost the battery enough to get it started even when the battery is below 12v. This morning when I tried to start, the starter button didn't make a sound, no click, nothing. The lights w...

Header pipe removal
(Preview)
I just bought a new FMF Q4 slip on exhaust, and thought I would remove the header pipe and clean it up while I had the muffler detached. Though the retaining nuts and plate came right off, there doesn't seem to be enough clearance to actually remove the pipe. I can't pull it forward enough to clear the main...

Keeping water out of your wheel rims to prevent corrosion!
(Preview)
Over the years I have come across many wheel rims that have corroded on the inside next to where the tube valve and/or rim lock fits. Water (and maybe even salty water in the winter) gets in and starts the corrosion. The best way to prevent this happening is quite simple. Fit seals to the tube valves and a r...

Indicator wiring and installation
(Preview)
So my TTR250 20016 blue model confuses me a bit. The only remnant of indicators is the indicator switch on the handlebar. There aren't even any holes or brackets where indicators used to be. Also no trace of a relay on the harness. So I've gone and bought LED indicators as well as the appropriate relay. I...

Fitting new decals can be fun - when it turns out right!
(Preview)
Just fitting a new set of D&D decals and started with the rear mudguard as it's the easiest to do. I haven't fitted decals for ages and it took a little while to remember the little tricks. Quite pleased with the result. Fork legs next, then side panels and tank.

Repairing rust holes in a metal tank
(Preview)
OK – so this doesn’t feature a TTR tank but the principles will be the same! I went into my workshop one morning and it stank of petrol. The cause was a filler patch on the bottom of my BSA C15 petrol tank falling off and petrol dripping out of various pinholes where the tank had rusted through. Having attac...

Long time since I've been around here! Back on the TTR and have been noticing some odd gearbox behavior. Specifically, un-cooperative shifting gears when idling at standstill.
