Last MOT I got a verbal advisory to sort out the rear brake pedal as it wiggles on the shaft on the frame. I get the feeling the pedal should be held in place by a circlip or similar. Unfortunately on my bike one of the previous owners has welded a washer on to the shaft to keep the pedal in place. Before I grind/cut the washer off and probably knacker the shaft can anyone tell me what the set up should be, ie, is the shaft removable or is it part of the frame. And is the pedal normally held on by a circlip? Any pictures greatly appreciated.
Also got a verbal advisory on my spotlights. the tester told me he wasn't certain but he reckoned the spotlights should be on a separate lighting system from the normal headlights. Can anyone comment?
just thinking it also may have to have a warning light / idiot lights as they call them depends on your mot tester sorry about the caps in previous post did not realise john
Regarding the pedal pivot on my 1993 model it is a 12/13mm spigot shaft welded to the frame. My Swedish stilsons began to shear the washer weld so I hacksawed it off. It looks like factory welding on the spigot shaft/frame as the welding is identical to the footpeg bosses next to it. So no easy fix for me. Looks like the groove/circlip on the end of this shaft rusted away so previous owner welded on a washer instead. My pedal is well worn so I think I'll have to sleeve it then cut off the shaft and drill out its 'root' then machine a shorter boss, with a thread to accept the"Brake Pedal Pivot Bolt" Brian found below, and weld it into the frame. My only concern is that this adaptor maybe for newer TTRs and my pedal may not fit onto it.
Sorry Brian I've modified it all and put it back together. Insteard of tackling the radial play, I filed the boss on the frame down and tapped it. A selection of washers at just the right thickness and a screw really tightened up the axial play and has got rid of the play in the pedal. May get a couple of year out of it befoe I have to do it properly. Thanks for all your help.
