damaged thread
(Preview)
Ok I messed up! Somehow I managed to damage the thread in the float bowl for the drain screw. I must have put it in cross threaded. I the drain screw itself is damaged but more worryingly is the thread inside the bowl. Any suggestion what to do? Rob

More carb woes
(Preview)
I went to start the bike after some time of it just sitting there. pulled out the choke and it fired up and reved like mad. pushed in the choke and it died. Tried it again and twisted the throttle stop to slow it down. Now will not start at all. I have got the carb off but before I take it to pieces anything...

Do not start after tipover
(Preview)
Google translator. I think it's a carburetor. After being tipped to the left (I have not topped the right one yet) I can not run the foot of the engine. I do not have an electric starter. It is only after about 15-20 minutes that the motor can be started. Such a mystery. What is going on? Thank you.

Engine stops on hard accelleration
(Preview)
Can't find this one anywhere in the 5 pages of carb posts so here goes... Bike has a very intermittent fault, will run perfectly for a long time then suddenly stops completely or misfires on mid/high throttle. The problem started after stripping the bike for frame paint and valve guide seals, but did...

New muffler does carb need adjusting?
(Preview)
So, I put on a new muffler over the weekend and took the bike for a spin. Wow! More grunt! I feel like she has more torque now (able to change gears earlier at lower speeds). I am hearing a bit of backfire when decelerating at higher RPMs. I am unsure if this is because it is running lean or rich (haven't...

Bike without a carb
(Preview)
I recently inherited a 2004 ttr250 from a fellow firefighter who passed away. The bike was given to me without a carb. It is a project bike with intention of eventually making it street legal as a tribute bike to continue my buddies plan. I've looked to buy the teikei y30p but am unable to find one online....

Carb questions
(Preview)
I have three questions about my carb 1. Should it leak gas if the bike is on its side? 2. Should it stay running when it's on it's side? 3. When I do a coldstart should the bike cut out whenever I blip the throttle thanks.

Is my carb missing bits?
(Preview)
I've taken apart my carb to deal with some leakage and it has clearly been taken apart before. One of the float arms had been broken off and pinned back together. There is also no white plastic insert seen in the following pic. What purpose does the white plastic bit have and does it matter if it doesn't ha...

Yamaha Energy Induction System (YEIS) - boost bottle, air chamber, resonator

Ever wondered what the little black bottle plumbed into the TTR's air intake was supposed to do? I confess to having been ignorant until reading a review of the new Beta enduro bikes in the latest TBM magazine when the YEIS was mentioned. I did a search on t'internet and found some more information.Ap...

All balls Carb Rebuild

As I am always asking Bri to test kits that I have in the shop, thought I would have a go at fitting the all balls carb kit, as my carb needed a overhaul on my OE that I am going to do a full rebuild/ 350 kit on. So I started off stripping the carb down Now I think most people buy the kits, just to use all the gaskets O...

Will a carb leak impact performance?
(Preview)
My carb has a leak from the diaphram area at the bottom of the carb so the diaphram is probably toast, I'll need to replace it. My question is will this issue have an effect on performance? I have no other TTR to compare mine to but if I had to guess I would say it's feeling underpowered.

TTR running rich on tickover
(Preview)
I have a carb that runs rich on tickover. Just touch the choke and its stalls immediately. I have set the float height artificially low - made no difference so it's not flooding. I have checked that the choke is seating properly so that's not the issue. I tried a smaller pilot jet and it made no difference...

Engine 'blips' when closing throttle from WOT
(Preview)
Hey there. So I noticed when I run my bike wide open/full throttle and then right after closing the throttle or even going half-throttle, my engine 'blips' and surges for about half a second before engine braking. I'm wondering if this is an issue with carb tuning. It's kinda annoying esp. when speedi...

Carb leaking petrol?
(Preview)
These are the usual culprits! I have just stripped them out of a carb that has been standing unused for a long time. The float bowl gasket was hard and flattened. The diaphragm had fused to the carb body and had to be prised off plus the two small O rings by the diaphragm had seen better days. The carb wasn't...

Slower throttle response compared to race bikes
(Preview)
As most of us have all known for years, barely twisting the throttle on a 250-450 race bike will make it launch hard. The same throttle response on a TTR is much smoother and less aggressive. For the first time the other day, I twisted it much farther and it flew from 40-70 mph with plenty of power le...

Adjusting the fuel level in the carb bowl - float height

The page above came from a blue TTR manual and it's different to the instructions in the older TTRs' manual which, in step 4 (actually it's instruction 5 in the older manual), adds "and warm up the engine for several minutes" I am missing something here - why warm the engine up on the older TTRs? I am about...
