If I get that very cool bash plate from totallyttrs will I have to take it off every time I change the oil? Looks like it will clear and doesn't have to be removed to get at the drain but I thought I'd ask. (This is for a 2003 US model, with custom stand, as pictured.)
Also, it looks like it just bolts on where the stock frame guard bolts on, yes?
I never heard of a "bash plate" before joining this forum and it still cracks me up. But I guess it makes more sense than "skid plate."
Just to confirm- you do not need to remove the bashplate to drain the oil and from looking at the picture, it bolts to the rear lower engine mount and the original engine guard/bar mounting point at the front.

Better than a b and b bash plate the hole is in the wrong place on mine and with a magnetic sump plug which has a bigger head you cant get a socket through the hole and onto the plug

I have no problem using Brian's magnetic plug (16mm) with the B&B bashplate. Not sure why you have trouble, maybe you have it fitted incorrectly?

Continuing to display my ignorance here: the B&B plate is a different make from the totallttr version? Chris are you having that problem with the B&B plate or the totallyttr plate? Can you drill that stuff or is it too hard?
Its the b and b plate i have and it could be drilled easy enough ,it was fine with the smaller plug but cant get the socket on with the bigger one ,i just have to drop it down a bit to drain the oil now

Something does not sound right. Considering that two people do not have the problem you describe, I think you should check how you have it mounted. Giving B&B a bad name for something that could be your fault would not look good. On the other hand, if it is B&B's fault, I am sure they would like to hear about it and may help in some way. They have excellent customer service and strife to please customers.
Did you buy it a long time ago or recently? They may have had a change in design since you bought it? I will ask them so we can get to the bottom of this. I highly doubt their laser cutter is at fault.
The hole is slightly off-centred on mine but it does not affect the removal of the drain plug using either the standard 12mm sump plug or Brian's 16mm magnetic type. I think it is due to the fact that I used rubber on the front mounts so as not to scratch my frame. The front mount has now been sorted with a different mount, I am yet to buy one though.

I have a B&B Bash plate and it didn't line up properly so I got a metal circular saw and "adjusted it"
Now it's a bit bigger and makes oil changes very easy
Doesn't expose the bottom of the engine significantly more
It's pretty easy to do if yours won't line up:
Remove bashplate Clamp it down to a piece of 4x2 pine Use a suitable hole saw and drill straight through the wood and the edge of the old drain hole This way you only make the hole a bit bigger and just take out a crescent of metal

I didnt buy it ,it came with the bike ,it cant be fitted in the wrong place as the rear left fixing bolts to a frame bracket that cant be moved
As far as getting b and b a bad name that is far from my intention i was just pointing out that i cant drain my oil without dropping my plate as the hole is too far back to get a socket in and although i can slacken the bung with a spanner it wont come right out with the plate in place
Its realy not a big problem and if it was i would of made the hole bigger myself
So the tally now seems to be 50% have a problem, glad I don't lol. I will let Wendy or Chris know that some people have a problem with the drain plug.
Can both of you confirm whether or not you have the new front mount fitted. It will help with sorting this issue out. The old one is the water pipe clamp and the new one is like the one Brian sells that bolts to the original engine guard/bar mounting point. It will help with sorting out this issue.

Mine is like the water pipe clamp, there's 2 on the front and 1 on the LHS, on the right is a small M6 bolt that picks up a bracket on the chassis so it's always in exactly the same place
I guess the drain hole was stamped out slightly out of alignment

It is good to hear that the new front mount is not at fault. It still has me wondering whether or not there was a change in design or if the laser cutter is a little ''hit and miss''?
It would be good to sort this issue as I am planning on buying the new front mount and may need another bashplate some day, you never know.

I have thought about making the new mount but for $20.00 AU it is hardly worth it. I have already basically made B&B do the work for me (as you can see from this thread-http://ttr250.activeboard.com/t54782737/cardboard-bashplate/) so I may as well claim the prize.

Mine has the old style pipe clamp ,cant knock that though its never come slack or rattled
Yeah, as annoying as they are to fit, they work well.
Sorry to hear that yours didn't line up. I thought it must have been the fitment at first but 50% says something. As you say, it is not a big problem and if it was, it can be fixed.
I am glad we have got somewhere on the issue, let's hope we get it sorted. It would be good to see it cleared up for future customers as B&B Offroad are a great company and have fine workmanship. To see something so small as the sump hole in the wrong place be a ''knock back'' would be a shame.
Ps. if we all take a picture parallel to the sump hole, we will see what the difference is and it will help to sort the issue.

better than those 3 stupid pipe clamp fittings, the 2 front ones are most difficult to get on
How about something like this to sort your front end mount Steve? You only need to drill two holes in bashplate to attach it to the bracket
I have put an M8 bolt in just to show the scale of the bracket. The single hole attaches to the bracket at the bottom of the frame tube.
I am pretty sure they were made out of stainless and are quite well put together. I have a few of these surplus to my needs. If anyone needs one just send me an email here.
That is just the thing, think I'll order one when I get some other goodies, I think I'll use the countersunk bolts that came with the B&B bash plate if I can, they bolt up flush

I bought a TotallyTTR "bashplate," easy to install. Got here (Oregon) from Devon, England in just over 2 days! I haven't changed the oil with it on but it looks like there is plenty of room even with the magnetic plug. The thing is pretty burly.
