TYRE RECOMMENDATIONS- OFF ROAD ONLY
Permalink

G'day guys,

There is nowhere on the internet that discusses this topic.

I still have the original Dunlops on my bike.

I want to change to an exclusive offroad dirt tyre.

What brand/types do you recommend?

Hi Jason

What sort of terrain will you be riding in, sand, hard pack, rocky, soft mud or summat else?

Your answer will allow responders to focus in on the most suitable options.

There might be something here of help but you need to be able to skim read

Brian

G'day Brian,
Not sand, but all of the others, mud, rock, hard pack. Probably most typical of a day out in the Australian bush. You get all really in the same day.
I have run Bridgestone Battlecross X31 on my Husqvarna for years, I have been happy with these. Very tough tyre, run Tubliss in the rear.
Something similar or maybe the same for the TTR?

Thanks guys, I have read through the following link, heaps of info. I guess I will just have to make my own personnel choice and find the closest match to the terrain and requirements that I need.

If you're happy with the X31s, why change?

I have them on my Husqvarna FE350, not on the TTR.

Battlecross X31 don't come in 100/100/18

I want to keep the tyres the exact same size

I tried several tires; the best advice came from this site by Terry. fitting the standard sizes.  I found doing so got the bike back to handling as it was designed to. (for years i had chased better handling and tires going back to standard sizes was a great move)

I'm currently running D606 tires, they work pretty well and last longer than most tires, great for trail riding and short sections of black top. (they work well for me biggrin)

Thanks for your advice, I also just want to stick to the original size.

The D606 sizes from Dunlop don't come in the original TTR size

factory tire size is 100/100-18 Rear & 80/100-21 Front

The sizes vary by maker so a bit of a maze I went with the closest to the original on the 606s
