Ok, so as I mentioned when I joined I recently bought a low mileage TTR250 which had only been used off-road, but the road fittings - indicators, mirrors and plate holder - came with the bike.
Anyway I recently went about fitting the road gear, but couldn't work out how to fit the supplied plate holder - it appeared to be missing some mounting brackets to attach it to the rear frame or guard.
So I dropped in to our local Yamaha dealer who eventually worked out that I indeed had a genuine Yamaha plate holder, but that it was for a WR rather than a TTR. I then remembered that the guy who sold me the bike had also earlier sold a WR250, so then deduced that he must have given me the plate holder for that.
Never mind, I set about making a mount to fit the WR plate holder to the TTR, and the result is shown in the attached pics.
I'll separately post some pics of the mounting setup I made for it, and also some showing the factory (Australian issue) plate holder for a TTR250 (on somebody else's bike), which in my view is nowhere near as cool or racey as my WR holder! :)
Cheers

So here are some pics of other bikes with the Aussie issue factory plate holder, very upright and "blocky/rectangular" in comparison and all plastic by the look of it...

Yep that definitely looks less dorky than the Aussie OEM issue plate holders shown above, but I'm actually quite liking the look of my WR holder now that I've fitted it, :)
Hi and yes, exactly what I did with mine.
Great Minds think alike eh TerryK.
Way too dorky leaving it that long when one minute with a Hacksaw made it cooler.
🤪
Obviously NZ and Aussie Number Plates are of similar size.
Those big (square) UK Plates would be a different prospect.
Cheers

I'm in new South Wales we are supposed to have a reflector but have never had one. I fitted one on my Dr to get it registered then removed it
From a guy who has been pulled up near Sydney the officer was looking for a reflector 45deg up from the swing arm . Might be why the Australian bikes have the reflector down low
All my road worthy stuff was removed by the dealer when new I still have it all in a box

Very true, I believe the rego plate should be 45deg from the rear axle, when I cut the TTR mudguard ext. I fitted a stick on reflector to the number plate light. As for the WRR it has got a little LED for the number plate but no reflector
Photos of TTR & WRR standard
I could live with the WRR but not the TTR in standard form
