Anyone know what size the rear shock preload thread is? I'm considering an XTrig preload adjuster and I don't think they list one for the TTR but if I can find another bike with the same thread I can start the hunt on ebay!
(This is just because I'm too idle to strip things down to measure my shock...)
Well XTrig have so far been pretty uncommunicative. They do a "universal" 52mm x 1.5mm thread preload adjuster. Currently noone has stock. I was trying to get some dimensions 'cause the gap it has to fit in is pretty tight - takes the place of the preload adjuster locknuts on the rear shock and is surrounded by airbox. The adjuster needs access for a T-bar - I think it might just fit through by the shock reservoir/solenoid area, but like I say, it's tight.
Meanwhile, I went to my local suspension guys and they lent me a Wilbers hydraulic preload adjuster to play with (sale or return) Apparently most Wilbers shocks are this size. This would work quite well with the adjuster knob mounted on the LHS under the airbox.
Unfortunately, the hydraulic adjuster only has about 10mm of travel. I estimate I need about 12-14mm to get the correct sag for both unloaded day trips and fully loaded trail/camping trips. Maybe I should just learn to pack light The guy also suggested that the hydraulics are not too reliable in dirty conditions.
Wilbers also do a manual version exactly like the XTrig one but there are none in the country (they normally come fitted to the new shock you buy!) and at £200 more or less, it's a bit rich for me, especially if it won't fit in the gap.
Back to taking the battery box out every time I suppose, for now...
Resurrecting this thread: I tried contacting xtrig again (in German and English) and had no response. I decided to think of alternatives, and whilst idly searching "52mm thread 1.5mm pitch" on ebay, I found a Renault Clio front spring mount for about 20 quid.
It sat on my bench for months while I pondered what the hell to do with it... One day, with the seat off, I took a longer look at the top of the shock (I know - I really should get out more, but you know, covid etc...!) You can see about 1/3 of the circumference of the preload adjusters. I reckon if there was a way of turning them from the top, I could make it work. Because they are 2 different sizes, to make a compact tool which would provide enough torque seemed complicated. I brought out the Clio top spring mount, drilled equidistant holes in the top face and made up a little gadget that would locate in these holes, which could be turned in either direction (1/3 of turn at a time) using a 1/4"drive ratchet and extension bar to reach. M6 bolt in the side tightened gently down to lock in place. Now I just need to be bored enough to pull the shock out and fit my new preload adjuster and give it a try!

Long story short:
Revs Racing has closed. John Gaskell retired. I now have noone to do my suspension jobs locally. Devastating. Anyway, virtually the last job they did in their workshop was degas my 325 shock, fit a Wilbers HPA and reoil and gas the whole lot. I just arrived at the right time to catch them dumping loads of stuff in the skip!!! Still charged me for it though!
My manual adjuster would work, with a thin spacer/thrust washer, but I realised I had to remove the remote reservoir hose to fit it so I never got round to it, then when the Revs closure struck, I took the snap decision to go posh.
