Surely can't be done Pete as, if you connect the +ve and -ve terminals to make a serial connection, you would immediately short both batteries out by connecting them in parallel
PS Interested to know what you are trying to achieve
If you want to run 12v on a six volt system like earlier bikes there are dc to dc inverters just leave the charging system standard and feed the main feed via the 12v output of the inverter good for basic lighting cheaper and better bulbs
I have just had an '80s Honda XR 200 stator rewound to run 12v battery and lights system, retaining the 6v coils for the cdi/coil. £140 including a new reg/rec. Is that what you're trying to achieve?
