original key vs new key. 2005 ttr250

Yesterday,

Got a new key cut for my bike.

They said they had never seen an original key (i assumed for my yr model 2005) as what they had seen was some kind of butchered keys previously????

I rang my local yamaha dealer, and they recommended this place.

Quite a difference.

I keep original key on lanyard, has had an experience with my last bike, that riding home after work key jumped out of ignition.

Was quite an ordeal, getting home, to switch bike off, only to find NO key in ignition.

Was super lucky it fell into fairings(zx6), that i  was lucky enough to see in the daylight next day. By the grace of god i reckon :)

Anyway happy to have two keys now.

Z

Hello,

I discovered today that my one-and-only key has gone missing. I've disassembled the ignition and retrieved the code to get a new one cut. Can you tell me what blank they used for your new key? I saw somewhere that an Ilco YH51 will work, but it looks very long like the one in your photo. Does the extra length make it stick out from the ignition or does it fit flush?

Thank you!

Hi there. Your profile doesn't show what country you live in but, if it's the UK, Motoward will cut you a key using your key number wink

Its sticks out, but works fine, just does not look as good as the original key (hence why i have a lanyard on original key)

The blank that was used, is a silca yh29???? Not sure if that is country specific, sounds like it may be going by ttrfans post.

Cheers

 Added some pics.
