Best way to make forks stiffer???

I am very pleased with my 02 street legal TTR250.....with one exception.  The forks are way too soft.  The front end dives when you touch the front brake.  I was told to run 4psi and that is what I am running.  Can I buy spacers to make the springs stiffer, or buy stiffer springs?   Thanks!

Or you could drain refill the fork oil with a heavier grade or increase the compression dampening, are you riding on the street or in the dirt.

You don't want them too stiff for the dirt

need to either replace the springs or put longer preload spacers in...

fork oil dose not make forks stiffer or softer what it dose that give the impression
that it stiffens or soften the foks is.... it changes the time the forks take to settle
down to the ride hight govened by the spring strength.. so a heavyer oil slowing the
action gives the impression of stiffness... But what it dose is remove some of the forks
complyance over small sharp bumps..

I fixed mine using advice from A suspension guy who did the Ttrs for the thumper Nat’s

Just raised the oil level upto 100mm from the top of the fork up 10mm from standard no need for springs or air pressure and the dive is fixed and normal fork action retained

The reasoning behind it the forks work as normal but due to the reduced volume above the oil the pressure builds up much faster teducing the dive  while retaining the quick / smooth response over sharp small hits

strongly recommend  it

I see where stock springs are 42 and that fits my weight at 175 lbs. But, they are super soft. I will add more fluid as suggested, but I am wondering if I should buy 44 or 46 springs to replace them. Does anyone have experience with this decision? I'm afraid if I just add fluid I will blow the seals pretty quick.   I may try to order stock spacers too, if available.  Any options on that?

Thanks

according to the suspension guy who gave me the tip on raising the level 10mm there is no way a TRR fork can filled  to the extent it will push the seals out ( he used to do forks for the thunmper nats  series in Australia for well known rider )  .

the extra 10mm is similar to adding a bit of air pressure as it reduces the available volume the air is compressed in at the top of the fork .  if you are jumping and landing hard stiffer springs are a definite possibility  .

Ive done a few thousand Ks off road since the change and there the best forks ive come across , only  my opinion though biggrin , if any one tries it im interested in your feed back .

I will try the extra oil then, and see what happens. I understand the idea (air compresses, hydraulic fluid does not). If that does not work, I will look for springs. Thanks for the reply!!!
