Hey guys,

I work away at an evil place called olympic dam. However there is plenty of good riding up here - great red sand for miles. My TTR needs to be geared down to have more power to ride through this thick sand. Does anyone have any reccomendations for a ratio where I would be able to sit on 100 km/h all day and hopefully be able to pop the front wheel also?

 

I am looking at getting an exhaust and derestricting my bike soon.

Thanks steve, Thats why I love this site. If I have a digital speedo will this affect it's calibration as I dont have a speedo cable on the front wheel.

Excellent, will I need to fabricate any adjustments to my chain roller with 13/48 or 14/52?

Are those speedo adjusters accurate/hard to install?

You might need to elongate the holes on the lower rear chain guide to let it drop enough for the chain to ride over it onto the 52 tooth properly. It's worth it though - excellent trail gearing.

Thanks guys. I think I will go with a 13/48 so I dont have to change anything at all. If I do that my speedo will be showing a faster speed than I am going? I had a speeding ticket the other week and don't need another one.

Correct - speedo will read faster than actual speed.
I prefer a 14 tooth front sprocket for the extra clearance over the swingarm , but as you say, 13/48 is less hassle.

Anyone had any experience with JT chains and sprockets?

Price seems good. And its a 13/48 kit like I am after.


Only other question is it would fit a 1997 ttr?

Sprockets are interchangeable across all years and models of TTR250 - one of the beauties of owning a TTR250 biggrin

 Its cheaper as its not an oring chain .will wear fast prob last about a quarter of the time if an oring chain  

Oring lasts well  .  non oring short life but low drag

So any o ring or x ring chain with a 520 pitch will fit my ttr? 120 minimum links?

How's the sprockets/chain going threshold? I just put 14/47 on mine and it's awesome. Can still cruise they highway but have seemingly much more poke. Let us know how you get on.

Well I hope they should be on my bike. Bike was at mechanics getting fork seals done so I said put chain n sprockets on too.. I will let you know in a couple of weeks when I get it back

Im enjoying it kman.

The only thing I am not enjoying is my speedo being out.

Need to get that speedo adaptor as im on an open enduro it reads it from the front sprocket. What a silly idea!

Will post more on it when I have an adaptor and have an idea on how fast im actually going.
