So I wanted a USB outlet inside my tank bag and came up with this
salvaged from an old car charger thingy
Works great when usiing the GPS App
On the 1 amp outlet the phone stays fully charged
even with the screen on 100% brightness and the GPS receiver running and the bluetooth running as well
Similar to the donor outlet
Testing and measuring
Shrink Wrapped
EC3 connectors 25cents a pair
Connected
2004 TTR250 - Highway Dirtbike Hand Guards, 38mm Bar Risers, D606 Front & Rear, Opened up Airbox with Twin Air Filter, Re-jetted Carby, B+B Bash Plate & Frame Guards, DIY 3mm Alloy Tail Tidy, 14/47 Gearing.
Neat - VERY NEAT

Thanks Martyn
it worked out well and the heat shrink holds all the components in nice and tight
If you wire up the EC3 connectors correctly you get a universal power outlet
socket=female
Pin=Male
I fitted this one yesterday in 42c, tested it and it works
Cheers Terry

They are fiddly to fit aren't they, where did you end up splicing in for power ??

Straight to the battery, tank & seat off, ran the cable along the backbone to the battery.
it has it's own fuse & with it on battery power I can charge my phone or gopro without having to turn the key on
Terry
I spliced into the loom on the TTR, that was OK, looked neat and like part of the wiring
I couldn't find anything suitable for the DRZ so I did the same, a couple of ring connectors to the battery and an in-line fuse.
I was going to switch it but then realised I had the EC3 connector doh! at least I didn't actually put a switch in.
Yeh and no key needed is good too.
.
Usb ports usually drain the battery over a fairly short period of time if not switched off.
I'd advise fitting a switch.
I've got an old optimate lead to fit to the battery and you can now get sae and optimate plug in usb ports for about £20.
I'm going to pick on up and plug it in when I need it.
This is mine. About £5 off eBay, has waterproof cover, spliced into headlight dipped beam. Works......

Luckily the plug is on the battery side of the port, after leaving it on for a couple of hours I could feel the outlet was slightly warm
so yep, flat battery if your not careful

I can pull the fuse out to stop the battery draining
