Replace Raid headlights and panels with XR250
Permalink

Hello guys. So I have decided to replace my Raid headlights with a lighter one for easier wheelies and better handling  - the thing must weight 15 kilos! Parts here are rare so I thought I might use a XR250 headlight since they are plentiful. Will this work? Will I still be able to use the big 55W bulb?

Also, the side panels are just plain big and ugly (Apologies to all other Raid owners!) so I'm thinking I might replace them with Open Enduro panels. Will they fit?

Your post has had quite a lot of views but no replies so I am guessing no-one else has done the XR headlight conversion.

Can you borrow the headlight to offer it up to your Raid before committing to buy one? That way you will know what work is involved in making up brackets etc.

If you decide to go ahead please take lots of photos for us wink

Not sure about the OE panels.....

Brian

Has anyone got a raid locally, that we could try my panels on?

Happy to spend the time and have a look, as I would be interested to know the answer.

Steve

Thanks for the replies guys. For the panels, I tried on a pair from my friend's XR (his doesn't have the original square headlights) and it does not fit. You must custom make a pair of aluminum/steel triangular plates to cover the sides. Something like this.

I bought a dirt cheap pair of "aftermarket" Open Enduro panels from a chinese website, since I figured it is just plastics. The tool box on the left side will have to go, though.

For the headlights, my local mechanic just bought a xr 250 to break up for parts, and I'm waiting for it to arrive so I can go to town on the poor thing. I will post the pics later.

If anyone is interested, here is a link for the "aftermarket" chinese panels:

Full OEM kit costs 500 $... what a rip off....
