Hey Guys, **** it has been so long since I logged in to the forum I had to look up my username and password

Just goes to show how reliable the TTR is, haven't had to ask a question about an issue for  ?? I don't have a clue how long

Anyway, just built a windscreen for the TTR today, my prototype I guess, going to build another one a bit wider to protect from the wind even more

works really well at an 80k test so far, little lip at the top tip deflects air away from your face well.

first time I have been able to ride at that speed without the helmet strap garroting me

next stop will be to make a wide one for a bit more protection, I'll see how this one goes tomorrow.

got a 160k or so ride lined up

So what do you all think ?

Looks great. What's it made from? Can you quickly detach it for steeper terrain?

This one isn't really a quick detach version, I will probably build another one using 50mm velcro but it doesn't really look like it's going to be in the way anyway, it's not far enough back

What's it made from is a product called Foamex in Australia which is highly compressed polystyrene, this one is 3mm thick, bendable and you can heat it with a heat gun and bend it any way

I curved this one to fit the "standard windscreen" then bent the tip forward as well

Welcome back Steve wink

The screen looks very professional.

It may be an optical illusion but isn't the top of the screen very close to you? Can't really get the scale.

Brian

It seems like it will be OK, even if I do hit it and break it foamex doesn't create any sharp edges so should be safe

Look up Tutoro, it's an automatic chain oiling system, gravity fed, seems to work OK so far, only used it once yet though

Martyn (pug) has the tutor system too. Looks like you have the screen at about the right angle, if you have it too steep an angle the air will come over the screen and straight back down again on you.

It's a bit hard to see in the photo but there is a lip it the top that helps a lot as well, you see a lot of after market screens for other bikes with the lip

of course no one makes a screen for the TTR, not that I really care, took about 4 hours to set up but now I can make then in about 15 minutes if I break it

Yeah I think some white plastic bottom fork shrouds would be quite cool.

Gave it a good test yesterday, rode 350klm, everything from 120kph stretches of tar to really steep gnarly ascents and decents

at 120k's it created an area of  fairly "still" behind the visor, at 80k's it was really good

so no need to detach it at all, it just bumped me in the chest a couple of times on really steep accents so I'm going to bend it a bit more vertical, that will fix it

no noticeable vibration, it just sat there even at 120ks

next stage is to make a wider one for more on road protection, probably 75-100mm wider each side

and then a removable lip at the top to add another 100mm for even more protection

I'm using a Screens for Bikes screen which is TTR specific and it definitely cuts the wind to the chest. With a slight race tuck, 120kph is quiet enough. I did bump it when I dropped the bike off road and basically just one of the rubber mounts on the factory screen popped off. Nothing to worry about at all.

Your hand built one looks great. I'm using a Tutoro too but my reservoir is mounted near the front sprocket.

Please Send photo's
I'd like to see how you mount the screen and the tutoro.
I'm thinking of using Velcro to mount my screen so it's easy to remove.

Are you using the Turoro oil still, I'm thinking of using some light motor oil, the tutoro stuff is to sticky and attracts dust and really hard to get off
I had to use degreaser 3 times to get it clean around the sprockets and chain

Cheers

Steve

This is the link to the one I made. Smaller but it seems to be doing the job...

I'm still using the green Tutoro oil. It's a little bit tacky but doesn't fling all over rim. I'll take a photo of the mounting tonight. It's going to get changed as I need space for a clutch arm stop adjuster.
