lengthening a factory TTR250 lower link

I have been toying with the idea of having a genuine Yamaha suspension link made longer  instead of buying an aftermarket part. the questions are  1. can it be done safely. 2. how can it be done. 3. how much would it cost. 4. who could modify it competently. 5. would it ever fail in use. 6. how much longer does it need to be.  well time to visit a few engineering shops to find out. obviously the purpose of the exercise is to lower the bike about 2" at the rear using the existing link. there is no doubt you can weld the types of alloy that are probably involved in the manufacture of Yamaha lower suspension links but obviously the welded joint will need additional gusseting to make up for the weakened joint which is inherent when welding aluminium alloy. any engineering related comments most welcome.

Not worth it the lowering link that you can get cost's less than what it would cost to play around with the Yamaha oe one
