I am pretty new to the TTR. Am I right in saying it likes to be revved?
I dunno what gearing is on it until I check later but I took it out the weekend and noticed that when I am in say 3rd gear I get the feeling the chain is loose the drive doesn't feel that strong so when I shift back to second it feels fine. Can gearing cause this issue?
I found it better off road rather than on road I must say. But to me it doesn't seem happy unless you are revving the nuts off it?

Hello,
someone more experienced will tell you more about gearing. My own experience changed a lot with tyre replacement: went from mixt/road to cross/enduro in fairly used condition from a friend's KTM. These inflated to 1bar made me feel like the bike was "dancing" on the road. I tried to inflate more: felt more stable but that affected the grip (my weight was 58Kg) and any bump or hole on the road was a pain in my butt. After 2-3 weeks riding, my feeling was "this bike tolerates a lot while riding inaccurate. 1-2 degree left or right makes little difference on my TTR, compared to a small road bike like Apsonic 110, Leopard-125, Pulsar-160 (cheap chinese and indian bikes imported in my country) on these ones any degree wrong can make me fall.
Trouble is that your only option to gear down is to put on a bigger rear sprocket which means you will need to buy a longer chain - unless you have some chain offcuts to put in.
13/48 or 14/52 seems to be favourite with our customers who use their TTRs for green laning!
im on 14-52 good climbing ability and lifts in 3rd on throttle pulls well n im 17 tonne ! bit thirsty than others about a £1 more on fill ups but worth it lol
Did you need to lower the chainguide to accommodate the larger rear sprocket or is it coping with the tighter chain angle without too much wear?
The US model of the TTR uses a 3-bolt lower chain guide which is different to the Euro 2-bolt guide and I am guessing is lower to accommodate the bigger rear sprocket.
I mainly use mine on the road, duel carriage way which is 50 mph will the 13/48 be ok for this or will it cause the bike to be too buzzy. Also will it lift the front at all as it struggles on go airborne at the moment.

I'm running 13/46 for mixed tight trail and some road riding. I had it doing 130kph on the highway, but that was with it revved pretty high, which I don't reccomend. I just wanted to see how fast I could get it to go. With that gearing, i still have a nice low 1st gear. With your 13/48, doing 50mph (80kph), it won't be too buzzy.
i find these bikes aren't the best for lifting the front wheel, but its most certainly do-able. I love starting in second gear, pulling back and going through the gears on a big straight stretch wheelie. I can usually get it travelling pretty good all the way through to 5th gear. 6th gear just won't happen though.
