I really liked the chain tensioner setup on my old 02 WR250f. I now have a 2006 TTR250 and was wondering if the swing arms between the 2 machines are interchangeable. If they are, I would probably have better luck finding one from a YZ250f. I'm also planning on eventually installing a wrf/YZF front end. I'm hoping to find a blown parts bike to get these parts from along with some other odds and ends. I will need the inner bearing races in the steering stem anyway. I know what some of you's are thinking; "get a wrf if u want the features of a wrf!". But I honestly love this TTR and it's in amazing shape. Last year, I could've purchased a fried YZ250f for only $400. I'm hoping to find something this year. Fingers crossed!
It has been done but is not a straight forward swap. The swingarm bolts to the engine on the YZ. To overcome this you may be able to use a spacer instead of bolting the TTR engine to the swingarm. However, the TTR250 is roughly 11.5mm at the rear bolt. The WR engine on the other hand is roughly 7.5mm across so you would need to use spacers on the outsides also to space it correctly. You may run into unforeseen troubles also.
Not sure if it is worth all that work just for a swingarm that looks the part. IMO- the TTR250 swingarm is just as good anyway.

It does seem like much work just for a minor mod. But, fabricating is one of my strong points. I think if I get the chance, I'll tackle it. Well, as long as I can get ahold of a good parts machine to work with. I'm definitely interested in doing the front end swap. I'ld rather have the WRf front end though so I could have progressive rate springs. But, I'ld still take a YZF front end if the price is right.
