I've got a 2011 TTR250. Bought brand new. Just about to take in for first service, etc. I was wondering what exhausts fit this bike. I can find a heap of aftermarket exhausts that fit 99 - 06, but I don't know if any of them would fit my bike. I don't really want to fork out for a GYTR exhaust, because they cost $750+ in NZ. I'm just a young dairy assistant, with a small family, and a big expensive exhaust is out of the question. Does anyone know of any cheap aftermarket exhausts that WILL fit my bike? I don't really like the look of the Motad, but its still out of my price range anyway. I love this bike to pieces.
Or, if anyone wants to take pity on me, and throw me a spare aftermarket slip-on for Christmas, then I would greatly appreciate it as well
The reason the exhausts are only listed to fit 1999~2006 is because that is when production of TTR250's stopped in other countries. In Australia, they continued on making the same bike (with a black frame) until 2013. The reason they do not list exhausts to fit 1993~1999 is that they don't know it fits haha. So to answer your question- YES, all TTR250 exhausts are interchangeable.
Selecting the right exhaust for you will come down to whether you like a LOUD exhaust or a quiet one....
If you like quiet, it's best to bite the bullet and get a Motad. As far as I am aware of, there is no quieter exhaust available that is worth fitted.
If you are fitting an aftermarket exhaust, I would advise to enlarge the pilot and main jet 2~3 sizes. The standard jets for your bike will be a #50 pilot and #147 main jet. Mikuni jets are said to be ten sizes larger than standard Teikei jets. For example- if using Mikuni small round jets, a #140 is basically the equivalent of a Yamaha/Teikei #150, so keep that in mind. This is You should also buy an aftermarket air filter like a GYT-R, No Toil, Twin Air etc.
You can make adjustments to make it run a little richer or leaner and smooth things out by moving the jet needle clip up or down. Standard setting is the middle...
You've saved me a whole lot of hair shredding and fear of purchasing the wrong pipe. I've looked over and decided that I'll got with the Q4. I'm not looking for anything too loud, but sounds good when you open up the throttle.
You wouldn't happen to know if dealers and mechanics charge for changing jets in a carby even if they are provided? I'm not very confident in taking the carby off, but am mechanically minded. I was thinking if I get a pipe before I take her in for her first service, then maybe I can get them to switch Jets around while they do the service. Also, what is the general consensus on pod filters? Are they a no go area for TTR-250s?
Again, I thank you very much for your help.
Kimi.

Nice choice of exhaust, same as mine. It is not too loud when going slow but sounds sweet when you twist the throttle.
Most mechanics charge $60~$80 an hour here, not sure about NZ. At the least, it would take them about 30mins to install the jets and then maybe another 40mins if adjustment of the needle is needed. Hope that gives you some idea?
IMHO- I would steer clear of pod filters! They do not trap the fine dirt particles and are susceptible to sucking in water. An oiled filter is a must if riding offroad!

I'd been looking at a few pod filters, but now I'm steering clear of them! I think I'll go with the Twin Air filters. I've heard only good things about them.
That does give me a good indication on how much it would cost me to get the jets changed around. So thank you again! You've been a really big help!

I have a GYTR rear pipe with one of Brian's short header pipes... The short header made the motor rev out a lot quicker...
What part of NZ are you in.... I'm in CHCH....
I'm in the N-I. Taranaki to be more specific. We've got a few trail rides around my area that I want to go to.
I have seen the shorty header. But again, it's much too expensive for me at the moment. Especially if I have to beg the Mrs just for a new exhaust... (You should have seen her face when I told her the price of the bike)
I got recommended a GYTR pipe by my local Yamaha dealer, but they could only find the GYTR and the Pro Circuit that would fit, which leads me to believe that their systems are USA based or created.
