Hi, does anyone else run one of these ? my ride came with one fitted but Ive never really used one in the past, I like to clean and lube myself (ooer mrs), so I can do a few checks and keep a eye on things, Just wondered on peoples thoughts of these.
I use one on my 1200 Bandit road bike and after adjusting it correctly it's done a sterling job. I think I've adjusted the chain a maximum three times in five years. (25,000 + miles)
I have considered one for the TTR but come to the conclusion that the chain gets that much crud/mud/dust off the trails thrown at it, with innumerable immersions in water, that a Scottoiler would be waste of time.
When I hose the TTR down - after each ride - the chain gets washed too and then dried. It's then liberally toothbrush painted with used engine oil.
I don't do many miles per year on the TTR and I've changed both sprockets and the drive chain once in three years.
It's your choice but I reckon it depends how the bike is (ab)used.
it has been removed so if anyone is after one for a road bike drop me a PM, I think the flow rate was too high, I removed the front sprocket cover and it was rammed with oil/wet gunk, it has a paste like feel(not good) so Im glad I did look, Its all had a good power wash down and is lovely and clean, cleaned the chain and all is good,
also found the upper chain guide roller seized, some AC90 and a little time (battery drill and 1/4 ext bar) freed it up and it rolls a treat now.

For 'anti-fling' chain oil I use chainsaw chain oil, as saws can run at 15,000rpm on direct drive - it sticks well. Before going out I lift the back up, spin the wheel and oil the chain with an oil can. A 4.5 litre can is about 15 quid and should last a life time (better than a silly little spray can for 7 quid) - I buy it in 5 gallon drums for tree work, good stuff.
