I'm trying to decide !!!!!! Having been distracted for a few weeks with my other bikes I finally took the TTR out for a trail ride earlier. Now I'm no lightweight but even so I expected more grunt. I'm comparing the TTR to the experience I had on a friends KTM 250 which is like a caged animal..So, are all TTR250's a bit gruntless? or just mine.. it has a loud can on it and I'm wondering if the can without rejetting could produce such timid response to throttle in all gears ..
I think it depends upon what state your TTR is in, like what year, what sprockets, what servicing, what mods, etc.
My TTR is a 2000 model and performs really well on the trails as far as I'm concerned but on the road (compared with my 1200 Bandit) it's a slug.
Mine surprises me with its torque, like when I'm slogging in a highish gear, it certainly pulls me through but lets me know it by grunting a bit. A change down and it's better.
Its top speed on tarmac will be 65-70+ mph and I'm thankful it has a 6th gear when I'm pushing it.
What you need to do is compare like with like. Have any of your mates got a TTR with which to compare?

Unfortunately not,,, mines a 2003, I don't know its history,,,,, I'm going to refit the stock exhaust and put new leads and plugs on .. see if that helps
No chance in hell of making your TTR responed like the ktm, chalk and cheese.
Mine has certainly improved since I put a fmf powercore can on,rejetted the carb and opened up the air intake, I also run 13/52 sprockets and the low end torque I get now and the response from the engine is far improved from the standard.
I ride with a group of guys all with ktm's and I always lag behind even though I'm riding the TTR on the "pipe" most of the time. I can go every where they do but when it comes to acceleration they leave me standing.
thanks Andy,, ... if its chalk and cheese then at least my bike is ok ,, not a duffer,, I will change my mind then and get the bike on the dyno at my local tuners... seee whats what ...
