I have always liked the KTM 640 ADVENTURE but the lack of engine and electrical system reliability made me have second thoughts. Two months ago, when a TTR 250 Raid came to my hands I decided to make this modification. I bought from a friend a tank, lights, fairing and seat from a not working KTM and after a lot of thinking and work I managed to fit them on the TTR:
The problem was that the tank was to close to the engine and the exhaust and I was afraid that the combination of 25 lit gasoline and high temperature would be dangerous.. So I took the big decision to cut the tank and use it as a cover for the Raid tank.

the KTM spedometer was removed and the ttr one was fitted on the plastic frame:
The challenge was to make the tachomter work. After some reading I learned that the tachometer has three cables, positive, negative, and one cable that comes from the multipliier and gives the signal for the rpm of the engine. The + and - 12 V were connected from the cables of the lights and the orange one is the signal from the multiplier. All of them were connected to this green plug that is originated from a yamaha townmate 50!
All the cables that pass near metal are protected to prevent short circuit
Then comes the rest
Total cost: 170 euro for the used KTM parts and three Sundays!!!

...Now that I see this new picture, I wonder if you have issues with your bars hitting the tank cover? You probably have that worked out too, I would guess. How much extra weight do you think you added? Can you still access the choke and idle screw? I know the plug might also be an issue, buy you don't need to get to it too much. Bet you don't get her lost in the parking lot with all the KTM pieces on her! I hope you don't mind that I have so many questions, its just that I have never seen a modification like you have done.
You have WAAAAYYY more energy than I do! -I feel like I do well just to keep my bikes running in stock form.
Well, when I turn left, the bars touch the cover like you can see in the photo. But this is no big deal because the turning angle is not reduced, the touching happens at the end of the steering route.
The extra weight.. I didn't measure it, I believe its about 3-4 kg (or 6.6-8.8 pounds). The heaviest part is the metal frame that supports the lights and the fearing. Anyway, I didn't see any big difference on handling of the bike.
Access the choke is easy, but the idle screw...its a bit of a problem. I cant access it while I m on the bike, I have to step down and try to find it with my left hand. I think I 'll figure a patent for this in the future..
Get her lost, no way! I really like the bikes form now and I also like it when other motor bikers see it in the streets and ask me what model of YAMAHA is it!

mikesalonika can you give us a few R.P.M readouts at various speeds in top gear i.e 100 K.P.H, what does your engine peak out at in first gear. is your gearing standard. thanks for your work.

LOL.... might be best not to know.....
had a XR250 with standard gearing.... went everywhere at 100kmph..
then i put a rev conter on it...
100kmph = 6200rpm
