Just joined the forum, what a wonderful resource! Thank you Brian and all the contributors.
I just picked up a really sweet 2006 road legal (and still licensed) TTR for my son to use. It has less than 5000 kms on the clock, still on the original chain, sprockets and Nissin disc pads! It is in really excellent condition, almost a time capsule; no rust and everything still there. I had to replace the bars which were slightly bent, the air filter which was basically disintegrating, and the tyres which were pretty trashed and very hard. I've been going over the whole bike stripping, greasing, doing an oil change, bleeding the brakes with new fluid, and stripped and greased all the linkage and swingarm bearings. All were still in good condition. On top of all of that I got it for a steal. The little TTR's are still highly sought after in South Africa, but most of them have been used as farm bikes and are both pretty worn and no longer road licensed. I jumped when this one came up, and there was a rapid (and rabid!) queue of guys behind me wanting to buy it. Very chuffed, I'm sure she has another good 20 years of life in her.
Personally I have ridden all my life, have a few current KTM EXC's, some vintage Suzukis and Yamahas, and a Norden in the garage. Very lucky to be retired and can spend my time restoring old bikes.
Welcome to the forum Pete!
Congratulations on your (and your son's) good fortune. Sounds like it is an appreciating asset in SA. Have fun with it,
Simon.
