New TTR - Issue list
Permalink

Hi all, introduced myself a few weeks ago, as yet to buy my first TTR250.

Since then I got myself a '93 OE.  No pictures yet, but, you know what they look like right? Seems fairly stock apart from the Red bark-buster type grip guards.

The bike seems in pretty good order, with the following list to fettle  (I have looked briefly for old threads for these issues, but search doesn't seem to work very well. Apologies and thanks in advance if you can direct me to existing discussions, as long as they are still useful (info on where to get springs 15 years ago may not count):

1) Rear suspension:

I think this is going to need a full refresh, and I'm a heavy guy so will need at least 100KG spring. I'm generally pretty handy and have done plenty of work on cars and some bikes before, but never a rear shock.  Look straightforward though.  Will need seals, oil, gas etc...

Question: Where would I get a good quality uprated spring from in 2025?

2) Sprag:

Not really sure about this, so I'll at least be taking a look and report back. Current status is that the bike has a kind of delayed 'click' on killing the engine.  It's not a clang, or a bang, or a thump, it's just kind of a click.  Is this normal do you think?  Anyway I'll take a look for wear.  The only part option I can see is around £250 for OEM, is there a GOOD QUALITY alternative that anyone can recommend. Otherwise I'll just bite the bullet for OEM.

3) Clocks:

They've reset, and mileage is fairly uncertain since 2019. The kmph shows no problem whilst riding, the kms are being recorded, so far it's not losing track, but the fact that it was zero at purchase and the comments of the seller make me think the kms will zero when the battery is disconnected.  Is this a common issue?  Any known fixes?  This is a 93 OE, white, metal tank, digital gauge.

Thanks very much in advance, I hope I'm not too late to the TTR party!

Jon.
