i replaced the sprague clutch, and the 1st gear attached to the starter...a reduction gear...it had some wear too...
i put a new starter on there.
It still has issues...i am starting to shred this new starter motor. I am wondering if anyone here has dealt with this?
I am wondering it the shaft that the 1st reduction gear spins on is worn...or the cylindrical bearing that sits on the shaft...that would cause a poor connection between this gear and the starter motor...maybe that is the issue?
The starting assembly is noisy too when starting the bike...it should be quieter than it is...
any ideas of what i might be missing?
the bike starts and runs fine...and the downstream gears seem good to me....
agree if its a non genuine starter the armatures are soft .
very unlikely to have trouble with the other bearings or gears unless they have been damaged prior to the sprag replacement (sprags can damage the gears and break the housings)
i believe the original starter was wrecked due to the sprague clutch needing replacement....so hopefully that is fixed now
i just bought a used OEM starter on ebay....so i will install that and see how it goes. What i find strange is the noise that i hear when starting the bike.
It is definitely coming from the starting mechanism somewhere so hopefully i wont hear that once i install this new/used starter.
