After replacing the rebound bump stop on the rear shock and reassembling it, I noticed while pumping the rear shock up and down I hear a slight squeak and also what sounds like air rushing through a valve. Can anyone kindly tell me if this is a typical noise? The shock damping is fine and I can't discern any problems, but I'm concerned it may have a leak.
I've attempted to upload a video of the noise here: https://youtube.com/shorts/eqrG_gvPVa4
'73 RD250, '80 XS1100, '81 RD373LC, '96 Tiger 900/sidecar, '02 TTR250, and another XS11 - this time a chain drive Period 5 race bike that may be ready to race eventually.
Thank you, that's interesting. I disassembled the shock from the bottom and didn't think it disrupted the seals, unless I messed up the damping needle.
Ah, ok, you might have got away with it! Bouncing the back of my bike, I can hear a whooshing noise which is normal. If it feels well damped then you are probably ok. How old is your bike? Perhaps fresh oil and a regas would be advisable in any case?
PS Sorry John, no more pics - I don't generally take many.
