Please help, need advise on the TTR 250 starter idle gear 1
Permalink

Greetings, I'm from Sri Lanka where it's rare to find genuine Yamaha parts for the TTR 250. I bought a TTR 250 Raid 06 2 weeks ago, I heard the sprag clutch sound when I was inspecting the bike, however I got a sweet deal for the bike so I had my mind set to fix it once I reach home. Fast forward to today, I removed the motor, coil case and everything to replace the starter clutch / sprag clutch. I found out that the pinion / shaft grooves are completely dull and unusable, I took the motor to a local spare parts store and found out that the XR Baja starter motor's armature could be replaced with the TTR 250 starter motor housing and all is well. Right now I'm stuck with the Starter Idle gear 1 situation where it's worn out and have to be replaced, searched everywhere and finally found a good condition genuine part yesterday however, when I compared the idle gear that was on my bike and the genuine replacement at the store it's different, in the sense there is only 19 teeth on my starter idle gear while there's 20 on the genuine replacement. I'm worried and not sure on what to do because if I buy the genuine replacement, will it fit with the gear 2? because once I buy the replacement they won't make refunds. Please advise me on what to do?

I have attached below the Starter Idle Gear 1 which was installed in my bike when I bought it.

Annoying that there are two different combinations. I only discovered this by chance! See here

Thank you very much Brian for sharing that other post, I had to buy both the starter idle gear 1 & 2 for 72/20T  because they didn't have the 72/19T combination.
