Sorry me again, another day another post it seems, that's what happens when i'm up late at night googling stuff. Steve knows this as i've just placed another order with totally ttrs but whilst i get something sorted for the rear shock i'm going to service the front forks myself.
Unlike the OE, the raid doesn't have the air valves atop the forks to be able to add some extra pressure in the fork as a sort-of preload, instead they just have a small threaded hole with a bolt inserted.
It got me thinking, could i either drill and tap that hole out a bit bigger in the top of the forks and add a schrader valve so some additional air could be added, as i can't see in the breakdown of the forks there anything special internally (like an air bladder) that would be missing in the raid forks.
Alternatively fit a bolt and washer setup similar to the below. It would give some degree of adjustability and fine tuning, has any tried this or can see why either option wouldn't work?
You can add preload with a stack of washers, or coins, or some orange electrical conduit with a washer either side of it.
To adjust it, just fit a longer piece or cut some off.
The external adjustment does the same, just looks trick. Which I get too.
If you want to go trick with a stack of washers, make sure they are stainless. Or anodised deep purplish blue. Sorry, got carried away there.
Air valves on the fork caps are often to bleed air out, bring them back to atmospheric, during competition. Of course, another way of doing that would be to go to the pub, let the air in the forks cool down whilst you enjoy a beer.
