Looking for Camshaft caps
Permalink

Hi All!

Im new to the forum but i am a avid TTR fan since i got mine. Sad thing though its been a sitting duck for 6 months now as im looking for cam shaft caps and these are impossible to find. I have a 95 TTR 250 Raid and no parts catalogue that i found has them. Any leads would be much appreciated. Hope 2 enjoy my Raid soon again.

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately you can not buy the cam caps separately. They are machined to suit the head they are fitted to. The only solution I know of is to find a good machine shop, preferably with an interest in bike engines so they know what is necessary. It should be possible to make some thin bushes then bore out the camshaft holes to suit. BUT it is a job that needs to be done by someone with skill and enthusiasm or you might end up with a ruined head altogether.

An alternative is to build up the damaged cap and lower bearing surface with aluminium weld, then line-bore back to the original dimension, but this needs a good machinist AND a good welder!!

Sorry, good luck!

Thanks for the response. If i where to opt to change the piston head completely, i guess i will have to find a head for the year Model or where there no changes over the years? As my Bike is in Egypt i have to say i havent seen a mechanic yet who could machine me the cap.

Agree the caps and head are one a matched pair, you can repair what you have or find a complete head (make sure the caps come with it )

shame you not in Australia as parts come up from wrecked bikes all the time .

Fairly sure the heads are the same across all years, I'm sure someone in the forum will confirm soon

As far as I know, heads are interchangeable throughout the production life.

Sometimes places where parts are difficult to get give birth to the most ingenious engineers, but it's a leap of faith to use someone you don't know!
