Hi all, I'm Jake just joined the forum and wanted to say hello. 

I'm 29 and looking at getting back into a bit of greenlaning, looking at a TTR250 for some local lanes and rides down to North Devon (do some rides with Nathan Millward) and Salisbury Plain. 

I'm Bristol based so will likely join the TRF and try to get out and about as much as possible over the summer months. If anyones local or South West based please say hello! 

Toying between either a ttr250, drz or ccm gp450. But will likely start off with a budget TTR see how I get on. Have two bikes at the mo so need to sell another one first before I can pull the trigger. 

Curious how people get on with putting some light luggage on (tent etc) and if the stock subframe can take it or needs to be strengthened first.

Hi jake,

I've done nearly 90,000km fairly heavily loaded but with reinforcement and been fine. My girlfriend has done 50,000kmon hers with just a bar to triangulate from the rear footpeg to further back in the subframe. Her bike is more heavily loaded than mine and recently she slide her bike (not her) off a bridge, fell down 4m on rock and there was zero damage to the bike when we stripped it down to check. Pretty impressive.

I'd go for the ttr just for simplicity and value for money.

Make sure there is no horrible banging noises on start up and turning off. If there is allow an extra £250 (minimum) to replace the sprag clutch before it becomes an issue.

The forum is great for information and help, another positive for the ttr.

Hi Jake, welcome to the Forum. 

 

I load mine up, on the stock frame for camping trips without any issue. I use the Rhinowalk saddlebags, fit quite well.

Hi Jake,
I’m Lama and live in Bristol.
I’ve had my 2005 TTR250 for a few years and am a member of central Bristol TRF.
They are a very active group and friendly too, but you have to join that group to be able to see their Facebook group.
Good luck with your search for a TTR.
