Hello all,

New member.  I just picked up a 2004 TTR250. I haven't ridden the bike yet.  Going through it now.  It has a mangled carburetor, PO broke float bowl post and I'm working on that.  Anyways I have another issue I think.  See below.  

I see a lot of threads about draining battery with key off but my question is different. Should the battery get drained if the key is left on?  Mine has a 160 milliamp parisitic drain with key on.  This will drain a battery in a day. This is with no lights on and the rectifier unplugged.  Doesn't seem right.  With key off it's like 15 microamps with rectifier connected.  This seems ok.  I know, don't leave the key on.  But it's easy to forget on these bikes.  Has anyone placed an LED on handlebar to not forget?  Thanks for your responses.

Hi there!

I always stop my TTR by turning off the key rather than use the kill button. That way there is no problem

Just an idea

PS I also have an LED bulb in my neutral light and always park with the bike in neutral so maybe that would help you as it is fairly obvious?

Thanks for the response and being kind . I'm gonna make it street legal and get an indicator bulb so I don't forget. I'm dying to ride this bike. Putting on a TM33 carb now as PO trashed the original.
