Top-End Rebuild Parts Kits
Permalink

About to start a top-end rebuild on my '06 U.S.-spec TT-R250. I've done a limited degree of poking around and haven't found many complete kits (piston, rings, gaskets, etc.), but I do see the Wossner piston kit and Athena gasket kits via several sources including TotallyTTRs, plus a few other options including Wiseco & ProX piston kits, and Namura gasket kits. Haven't found a Vertex option (which is my typical choice).

Here in the U.S. I have ready access to all the OEM parts via Revzilla or Rocky Mountain ATV, but neither vendor offers the relevant OEM parts in a kit (i.e., I'll need to work through the parts diagram to identify and individually order each item, which is a potential source of error and also tends to be the most expensive strategy).

My question is whether there are opinions as to the merits (specifically for the TT-R250) of using one of the kits (Wossner and Athena seem most common), vs. sticking with the a la carte OEM approach.

Thanks!

Dave

Nothing scientific but I have rebuilt many TTR engines with both OEM and aftermarket and both work great and never had any problems with either.

I mostly used the Wossner kits from Totally TTRs - see here.

Thanks for the reply Brian. Do you have a preference among the various gasket kits? [Or do you use OEM gaskets]?

I have always used the Cometic head and base gasket kits, as supplied by Totally TTRs, and OEM clutch and generator cover gaskets.

If you want a really comprehensive gasket, O ring and seal kit then try the Athena one - everything is in there!
