Ok I have removed and cleaned the carb 4 times. I know what you all are thinking and I now too have the benefit of experience. "dude you should have cleaned the tank as one of the first steps to getting a bike that has been sitting with fuel in it for 5 to 6 years!!!" The tank is full of crap! I have a 2006 TTR blue tank. What do you recommend I put in the tank to remove the varnish and scrap that keeps making it into my carb and clogging my jets? I've seen folks use acetone and MEK etc. I am afraid these may be too hard on the plastic. I swished some kerosene in it yesterday and got a good bit. Do I just keep doing this over and over until the rinse is clean?
Ok I hit it with the jet/power washer and detergent. Now I have an issue with "gunk" building up behind the white insert below the filler cap. Can this be removed to clean? Any other ideas are more than welcome. Finally, how will I know if I have removed it all? The shape of the tank makes it impossible legit me to see inside to be certain. Thanks again.
Let it dry then use a u-shaped pokey thing to loosen the gunk, then a bit of garden hose duct taped into a vacuum cleaner hose will fit in the filler neck and suck out any debris.
Any doubts, fit an in line filter between tank and carb.
Thanks for the tip. I will definitely attach the hose to end of my shop vac. I have successively rinsed and am getting less and less debris each time. I feel lime I am getting close. Couldn't do it without y'alls experiences. Thanks for sharing
