New to me TTR open Enduro.

Hi all,

I bought this TTR open enduro a week ago and am in the process of stripping her down to give her a good wash, replace anything that needs and just check there are no nasty surprises before we begin our adventures together ♥.  Hoping to make her my future travel bike to far flung places!

So far we are happy with her condition, just the shock needs sending off but overall really pleased. Oh and the air filter had completely disintegrated!

I was hoping to take the stickers off and replace with new but the metal tank one appears to not be a sticker, or lacquered over.... the clear sticker comes off ( eventually,) but not as easy or as nicely as I thought. (Photo for ref).  Any ideas how I can clean the tank of this yellowy clear sticker on top of coloured one? ( Tried heat and not really any good)

Also i can't find any info on the frame number..... it begins with 4MR, and she is registered 1999.  Anyone any thoughts on this?

Thank you

Welcome to the forum Jo.
This thread has some frame numbers and pictures of various models:

There is a 4MR prefix so I see nothing untoward here. Dates of manufacture and 1st registration in the UK may differ because these pre 2000 bikes are grey imports - not official Yamaha imports - so minor paperwork discrepancies are nothing to worry about.

The metal tanks have a decal which was then overlacquered making them impossible to remove without sanding back to bare metal. You might be able to tidy it up a bit by carefully polishing the lacquer off with fine emery paper and recoating with an aerosol of 2-pack (for petrol resistance, and it's toxic so don't breathe the vapours!)... good luck!
