Hi Joe and welcome to the forum biggrin

Is it the reservoir cap bolts you are trying to source - like these?

Regarding engine oil, I use Fuchs Silkolene Super 4 10W-40 semi-synthetic oil - see here for more information.

Lots more information about TTR250s on the FAQ here

If you can't find the information you need, we are always happy to try and help wink

Welcome to the forum!
If postage to the US makes purchase from Totallyttrs of 2 tiny screws a bit expensive...
Being Japanese, the reservoir cap screw thread size is metric - M4. Countersunk screws, 8mm long. I would recomment stainless steel, and some antiseize copperslip to avoid them corroding into permanence!

biggrinThank you both for your replies. i had to create another account beacuse i forgot my login and lost my previous phone :( Now i am on Desktop its much easier to use and im back with a question or two and i am very greatful for all the help. i wanted to note the condition of my bike and how i got it running as i am a new comer again.. My uncle gave me his old battered TTR-250, I looked at it and thought how dare you leave that there like that. It was mechanically sound and still is technically and all it needed was an extermely heavy carb clean de rusting, new bolts here and there where they have been used elsewhere im guessing, new bars which was easy thanks to a friend of mine along with tank clean and de rust, battery, fuses etc.. oh and a carb float bowl gasket! Anyway i have limited funds at the moment and i wanted to ask before i go buying new parts, why on earth my clutch wont engage? i had it running fine ( not to mention starter motor was actually totalled) so i had to bump her into gear and release clutch to get her going. Now the clutch wont even engage, i roll down the hill, as soon as i click 2nd (with the clutch held in) it turns over and terrifies me! so i stopped and thought i would consult the TTR oracles.. i have a basic understanding of how the clutch works but am.. :( i have a Cr250 95 but there is something about this TTR that im more attracted to so i must ride it! How would i go about this ? how could i start it and get it into netural? would that warm the oil up and potentially unstick the plates if i could do so?

Assuming your clutch cable is adjusted correctly, and the clutch actuator lever lines up more or less with the mark (a raised line in the casting) on the casing, you might have to pull the right hand side engine cover off and take a look at the clutch plates/basket to see what's going on. If it was working, then stopped, I can only imagine something bent or broke, but I can't think what is most likely. Sorry.

The way it works is the clutch actuator arm twists a vertical rod on the left side of the engine which has a cutout shape at the other end causing a sort of cam action when it turns. This pushes a horizontal rod which puts pressure against the 4 springs in the clutch basket on the right hand side of the engine, releasing the pressure they put on the clutch plates and allowing them to spin freely.

Take a look at this guide that Brian has put together:

ttr250.activeboard.com/t55558194/clutch-replacement-guide/

Good luck!

Thank you mossproof, im getting a better understanding of bike engines alone from this page :) if i watch videos i cant find exactly what im looking for... i did see a video where as  you explained clutch actuator arm has a cut out at the bottom to push another but the video was quite inaudible, ill show you on a photo on a great site i found linked on here thanks to you guys too ! im sure its that part NUMBER 20 that i need to check if the cluch plates do not move when i pull the cable. I shall keep you posted how it goes..  aww Sooon                                                                                                                                                                    TTR.PNG

Hello i have taken my clucth cover off and the basket and everything seems fine from the outside. But not sure i havent got a torque wrench available at the moment and was just wondering, what could be the cause of only 2 of the friction plates moving along with the 2 attached clutch plates when i pull the clutch instead of the bunch moving? no Am i in a gear thats causing this ? Im sorry for the newbie questions but i am finding this very intersting and quite fun as a task. Ive rolled her into the porch and im still going as i havent got work for a few days ! But im afriad her indoors isnt too happy with the smell (that dosent exist) so the sooner would be much appreicated! Thanks!sprint.gif

Did you check that the clutch actuator lever lined up (more or less) with the mark on the casing as Simon suggested earlier?

As you are in this far, it will literally take less than 5 minutes to remove the 5 bolts and clutch springs so that you can take the clutch apart to check the individual plates for any possible damage and to make sure they all part from each other. They can then all go back free in the basket.

As you have movement, I am assuming the system from lever to cable to clutch is all OK.

No video but all the photos you need here - http://ttr250.com/Clutch_replacement/Clutch_fitting.htm

Thanks Brian i have followed the steps and found that the plates were just really stuck together and after some oil over them i used a flat head screwdriver with a cloth between the plates to unstick them and then engine filled with oil with some 5-40 i had spare and left the bike near a heater becasue its freeeeeezing inside the porch and plus im not too savvy with the oils, and i have been turning the wheel every 20 mins or so for a moment. All the clutch works fine and im going to drain the oil and put 10w-40 inside. i am just happy my machine is'nt completley broken or broken at all, i looked at the auctuator level and it was spot on to what i see in others. my clutch works in every gear, all 6 :) My next step is to buy some new clutch plates and an kickstart hole plug as i seem to be getting a sweat of oil and i noticed it was damaged ever to slightly. . not good, but thanks for all the help you dont understand how much you guys pointing me in the right direction helped... ! Happy new year...
