Ok guys, I have tried to avoid asking this question as the answer should be obvious, but despite a thorough search of the forum, I cannot find the specific answer although the general problem is referred to a lot.  How does one actually remove the float bowl check valve seat and needle from the carby when they are seriously seized in the carby? Which is removed first - the needle, seat or both together?  And is the seat screwed out or a press fitting?  Finally, can it be removed with pliers (with a risk of abrasion of brass seat!)?  I have read all the stuff about soaking, sucking and blowing (bordering on too much info for my fertile brain!)  I have even set up a bike pump with considerable air pressure but no luck.

The seat (with the little dome shaped filter on) is a push fit into the carb, and has an o-ring on it which holds it tight and stops it leaking. Carb rebuild kits come with a new one, if you damage it pulling it out. The needle should just drop out of the seat, so if it doesn't, it will probably be so manky the whole lot needs replacing anyway.

Before Steve tracked down the repair kits, the valve housing had to be re-used.

Getting some of them out was a 'mare.

I usually managed to get the reluctant ones out with mole grips which marked them up pretty well cry

Wow! I still have mine soaking in WD40 trying to get it out. Any other suggestions? I do have a new one to replace it but just can't get the old one out. It's pretty seized in there.

 

What about using a dremmel tool to break it up and cut it out?  Too much?

I have had success removing the brass seats by screwing a large sheet metal screw tightly into the seat and then pulling the screw and seat out with pliers.  The brass seat will be damaged but it will be replaced with a new one.

OK, I'll give that a try & report back.
EDIT: And back. I actually used an M8 extractor and worked like a charm!
