TTR250 1993 Electrical issues - starter

It could be the cdi, but you would be better checking everything 1st from starter button, sidestand switch, clutch switch, etc.

I sold a cdi to a customer who fried his, when charging his battery, not sure how that could happen though?

Hi Seth and welcome to the forum!

Are you getting power to the rest of the bike, neutral light, headlight, etc?

Have you got a multimeter to check the battery voltage and also to check the continuity of the circuit leading to and from the starter switch? If so, that's a good way to start your checks.

As Steve suggests, check the gearbox is in neutral with the neautral light showing as otherwise there are switches on the sidestand and clutch that prevent starting.

It is very unusual for the CDi to go faulty.

If the solenoid clicks but the starter does not work, check the solenoid by first making sure the TTR is out of gear and then bridge the two large terminals on the solenoid with a screwdriver. If the battery and starter are good then the engine should turn over. If they do then replace the solenoid. If they don't then you have a connection problem or need to check/replace the starter brushes.

Hi yes thank you for a quick response. I’ve checked the voltage battery and everything checks out the starter motor solenoid is working good but the issue is I can’t get the bike to spark. I’m getting no power from the trigger wire going into the starter solenoid the start button is just not responsive if made it so all the circuits are closed such as for stand clutch and gear to Eliminate as much as I can.

It sounds like you know what you are doing!

I am not sure whether it will help you but the CDi wiring is shown halfway down this page.

Are you saying that you have power to the starter switch or not?

No power running to starter switch at all, I have checked continuity through start switch and off switch and all seem fine just no power running through

I tried plugging in a 100% working CDI box and didn’t fix the issue currently very confused and not sure how to approach from now

Trick Is keep it simple

If the starter switch isn't getting power resulting in the solenoid not engaging it it looks like the ignition switch I'd the next on the list is there 12v I'm and out
