Riddle me this! I am just stripping apart an engine that I bought as part of a job lot many years ago and I have no idea as to its background.
It's from a metal-tanked bike as it has the extension on the transmission shaft for a magnet plus its number is 4GY whereas the blue TTRs invariably have a 4PX engine number prefix.
Usually 4GY engines have a breather outlet stub in the crankcase whereas the blue TTRs have it blanked off and the breather is in the cam cover.
This engine has the crankcase breather blanked and no breather stub in the cam cover
That's an odd one Brian, unless the engine is from the crossover period and the cam cover not the original. Is the engine number high (ie later 4GY)?
It's gotta breathe from somewhere!

Morning Simon!
Its a typical metal-tank engine with the engine number just having the 4GY prefix and no other numbers. The possibilty of a cam cover swap is one that I think is most likely. But very odd that a 4GY engine with digital speedo magnet take off has the breather blanked
