An electric TTR250!

 Electric TTR.jpg

I never thought I would be posting something like this but Australian TTR250 owner Gavin Merchant lit up the Facebook "Yamaha TTR250 Riders" group when he posted this photo of his e-TTR alongside his standard bluey!

He said:

I love my blue 250 but the electric conversion is scary fast.. instant torque, 100kph max single speed (which is plenty for me) and probably double the power. Lots of fun!

About 4hrs for my type of trail riding.. flat out probably 1.5-2hrs.. 2hrs to recharge

not sure on full bike but motor weighs 8kgs, battery around 20kgs plus some mounting plates etc. What would the old engine weigh? I basically gutted the dead motor, all wiring and airborne etc. It feels more nimble than the 2006 blue ttr

my problem is I have to be super careful coming off a turn because the torque is so savage it just wants to kick the back.. the positive though is its very smooth.. just need to get used to it and dial in throttle control and power delivery curve on the controller..

It's Epic ok .Have an electric quad and they seem fairly robust .Water you might think would be a problem but the motor works away even submerged.Fairly straightforward to build the electrics into a bike chassis. The only problem is that over a few years the batteries do degrade and there the most expensive part.Nice build.

Perhaps it works only for FaceBook devotees but there is a short video of it in the comments side of the article.
