Crankshaft end oil seal

I was cleaning up a clutch cover from a blue TTR and thought I would check the crankshaft end oil seal.

I was surprised at how hard the seal material was and how worn the inside looked so I dug it out to have a look.

The inner diameter measured just over 14mm and it fits over a 14mm end of the crankshaft so not ideal especially as it has lost its suppleness.

This seal is destined for the dustbin to be replaced by a new one from Steve - see here

Not intending to preach but just a suggestion to owners that they might want to check their seal out next time they have the cover off wink

I hope all our members in England are keeping sane under lockdown. Nearly halfway though guys so hang on in there.

Oddly enough I seem to be getting more done in the shed in Lockdown 2 which is good biggrin

Best wishes to everyone out there in TTR land wherever that may be in the world - stay safe and enjoy each day as it comes and, don't forget, be kind  handshake.gif

The new seal arrived quickly and, upon inspection, the oil seal had a brown insert which runs on the crankshaft end.

So, on the basis that Yamaha wouldn't have spent money building a special seal unnecessarily, please buy the real OEM item, expensive though it is compared to an aftermarket seal of the same dimensions!

The seal is now fitted and the cover will be on its way to Steve to go into stock in the Totally TTRs shop here.
