My boy’s bike has started to make a big banging noises when starting up or turning off, so my miss has ordered a used sprag clutch and gear 3. , from. Steve ( totally ttrs). So as soon as it turns up I will take bike apart and have a look, but just looked at the paperwork for the bike and found out that last owner had bought a new sprag from totally ttrs about a year ago , is there anything else I should be looking out for, any help would be much appreciated?

All becomes clear....

Marie's parcel will be on it's way today smile

I't important to check the boss that the sprag runs on, if a new sprag is put on a worn boss, it will not last longcry

Just changed sprag clutch but didn’t really need it but I was there so I changed it, but while I was taking it apart notice that it was the starter motor spline is naff! And the large gear wheel does not look to good , so will need them bits ! But what I found was a spot welded gear lever so that took a good while to sort out ? And two bolts that would not tieten so had to sort them, I would have took more pictures but my batt died,

I would say the sprag was defective and kicked back all the way until it damaged the starter motor splines, this is a common fault, if owners ignore the loud clunk when turning off their bikes.

Please don't put an aftermarket china made starter on, it will not last long, better to do this cheap fix

Ok thanks for that Steve, But I’ve bought a starter for £115 pounds I hope it’s not Chinese one. Made by arrow I think , I did look to see if you had a used one but I didn’t see one , there is lots on eBay well cheap , but after reading some theds I thought no , so are there. Any other bits that fit from majesty ( sprag ) ? Thanks for thred I’ll try get one and I’ll have a back up one ! I sorpose it’s good to have the newer engine with kick start , i seen that uhave the kit for kick would that fit I my bike ! Because I’m thinking that it should give starter longer life as well, or not? I’ve never had a problem with my road bike with starting it’s had two batteries in 8 years just start it every month, the ttr is my boys bike really, and he could do with building his legs up there like match sticks ,  even if I was to kickstart ttr I bet there not that bad , thanks again for the info !

It would be good if you could let us all know how you get on with the starter motor and how it fairs after a few months
