Flinders Ranges 2020

Just got back yesterday from a week up in the Flinders ranges in the North of South Australia, 500kms from Adelaide, we take the bikes in the trailer up & back & stay at Angorichina village, they have fuel & supplies if required.

13 riders ranging from 40 to 70 yrs old, I did 1200 odd kms on the WRR over six days, we had winding dirt & gravel roads, PAR's ( public access roads ) through stations, farm tracks, really rough tracks & heaps of rocks, sand & creek crossings...no water !!!!

The bikes :

2 x WR250R's  ( Terry & Dave)

3 x DRZ400E's ( Tony, Rob & Merv)

1 x DRZ400S (Matt)

2 x KTM690's ( Tony & Gary)

1 x KTM500 (Gary)

1 x KTM300 (Bruce)

1 x Honda Africa twin (Bruce)

1 x BMW GS1200 (Richard)

1 x SWM300

2 x Honda CRF450L's (Richard & Kym)

1 x DR650 (Symen)

1 x KLX300 (John)

1 x WR450F (Ian)

Will post a few photos when W10 talks to my phone

Terry

No injuries or breakdowns, one flat where a rock punched a hole through the rear tyre, The SWM had a brush with rocks in a gorge breaking the plastics, one bent front rim from a cattle grid, plenty of worn out tyres & bodies.

Cheers, we have taken the TTR's up there heaps, only the second time the WRR has been up, we were taking up there the other day & might take the TTR's back up or take both the TTR's & WRR's.

The TTR's are better on the hills & rocks but the WRR's have a longer fuel range & are great on the gorge roads, not a lot of fuel options up there & too hard to carry fuel.

Dave & myself might take the TTR's up but just the two of us, we both have Triumph Scramblers, TT250R's & WR250R's each

Now just to make you even more jealous here is a video from Mt Samuel on the TTR 2016

And on Buggery gorge TTR, the TTR is easier to ride in this gorge than the WRR, also 2016

Here is a really good video of both of us on the TTR's

Haha you inspired me to take the TTR out today. Just 50 miles on road and a slight detour along a farmers trail.

Great videos, thanks for sharing.

Awesome! Clear skies a little taste of mud and no dust! That actually looks a lot like home except for the gum trees, but it looks like May not September. Beautiful riding, thx for the post.

I led the ride around Mt Samuel this year on the WRR, was a lot rougher than on the video above.  Did not take any gopro's this year so no videos.  The videos above would have been in April / May & the Flinders is so much like Arizona with the landscape, red dirt & rocks.

Update on the Flinders trip, seems we have an injury after all, the one rider ( Symen DR650) that rode up hit a kangaroo on the way home & has a broken ankle. We had three broken ankles / feet last year in the Victorian high country & all wearing the same Forma Adventure boots, I updated my boots for this year.

I've hit one roo hard & brushed another over the last few years, missed a 6' male roo last Friday by 10' but was doing 90kms per hour at the time.

Richard has his CR450L up for sale with only 2000kms, seems he just does not like riding it, he rode his BMW GS1200 around Mt Samuel including Buggery gorge & the creek (crazy man)

My WRR is all washed, oil & filter done, new air cleaner, chain cleaned & lubed.

Taking the TTR out Friday

Cheers Terry

Below is Richard on the GS1200 on Mt Samuel

That's for sure, the GS1200 bellied out on the rocks & required a push, but in saying that the TTR got hung up on a rock but at least I could touch the ground LOL

Would be plenty of mud up there right now, they have had between 25 to 50mm of rain overnight during the weekend, the main road in was closed due to flood water over the road

Sure is they get flash floods that come quickly & stop just as quick, I know guys that were trapped on the wrong side of a flood 4kms from base but didn't have enough fuel to go back around.

There are heaps of floodways in the Flinders & even seen photos of Kangaroos caught in the flood.
