A quick question r there speed limits on green lanes in the uk ! It’s just I was w my son and his mate and we were rideing a lega green lane , and we came across a dog walker , in plenty of time turn bike off which was a mistake, because it then gave dog walker more time to lose his head , saying we were going way to fast , and to loud , by then I had taken my helmet off and he was shock,t I was not a kid but in my 40s and I then pulled a map out , saying it’s a legal green lane, he just wrote my number plate down , and walked off, I just wondering if there r speed limits? And should I buy a 50cc , or a dog, ??????
Not sure about speed limits as I am in Australia but when I come across a horse, dogs & or walkers I slow down & in the case with horses stop & turn the engine off. They always give a wave & if they are happy then they won't give us a hard time.
But in saying that there is always the odd one that can't be pleased no matter what !!! BTW in Australia or at least South Australia we have a 80kph limit on dirt or gravel roads but they are not sign posted & don't think they in-force it.
In England, if there are no speed signs, then the maximum is 60 or 70 mph - it's a highway albeit unmetalled.
That doesn't mean you can be reckless because you owe a duty of care to all others that legally use the same road, walkers, cyclist, children, groups, motorists, etc.
The chap who was piqued with your loud exhaust and so called speeding is entitled to take your number and other details but it is up to him to PROVE that you were breaking the rules - which may be a tad difficult.
Be sensible and you're OK.
Be dangerous and you MAY get into trouble.
Mr Plod may be paying you a visit and if your exhaust IS loud then you could have a ticket or a warning.
Cheers cubber., my exhust is fine , just went though mot,! And as speed goes, well I probably only go about 30/40 mph , and another quick question, if my boy had an crash god forbid with anther green, lane user is there any insurance that can be claimed? Thanks for your input??
Yes, a green lane is equivalent of the M1 insurance wise.
To ride a motorcycle other than on private property or designated area, like race tracks, requires minimum third party insurance.
A TRF trail ride is on the queen's highway as much as riding on the road and if you have a collision with another vehicle, street furniture, person, animal, etc you have to stop, give and take details, need to notify the police, etc, etc.
In fact, it's wrong to call it "off road" riding - it's illegal riding!
