Don't forget to loosen the end cap before taking off the tensioner coz they tend to be VERY tight wink

Brian, whats the service life of the tensioner & the chain for that matter ? My TTR has 21k kms & no rattles etc.

Hi Terry

No reason for the tensioner not to last the lifetime of the bike. 

Regarding the chain, the bikes that I have rebuilt have such unreliable mileages that I haven't been able to fathom how long a chain lasts - sorry! But if your chain isn't noisy then leave well alone wink

Also, the chain is relatively cheap so I usually fit a new one on my builds just as a matter of course.

When I did the gearbox at a bit  over 70k I replaced my timing chain  just because I was in there . Still looked OK going off the Cam marks
