125cc beater for the mongol rally
Permalink

Looking for ideas for an older CHEAP 125cc bike to do the mongol rally on.  Would prefer something that is offroadish; ground clearance, spoked wheels, exhaust pipe that doesnt run under the bike.  Hopefully a bike with cheap interchangeable parts.  Not a postie....

Good call, they take a beating and are super easy to work on and they sold lots in Asia I believe.

If you want cheap and offroadish how about a Suzuki TS185ER (or such). Came out in '69 (IIRC) and is still a current model in some markets.

It is light weight, has an engine you can't kill with neglect or stupidity (but can be improved (carb, air box and chamber)), and it handles exceptional well (note the lack of qualifiers like 'for its age').
