Hi to all riders, ex-riders and armchair champs,

I’ve just joined the forum.  I love my road bike (CBR1000RR) but many years ago I was persuaded to try an ‘off-road day’ riding around Salisbury Plain.  I absolutely loved it but never took it any further.  Last year I hired a CRF250L (hope that’s not swearing!) for a week in Crete and it rekindled thoughts of green lanes and muddy fun.

 

At 5 feet 6 inches tall (or short, from where I’m standing) with an inside leg all of 29”, and having reached the grand old age of 64, acquiring a TTR250 should probably not be top of my bucket list, or anywhere else on the bucket list.  But I’m not going to let common sense get in the way.  In the ‘brain versus heart’ battle, the heart’s going to win this one hands-down!

 

Once I’ve tracked down and bought the object of my desires, I think the best chance of survival will involve developing the balancing skills of a tight-rope-walker . . . and buying a lowering link.

 

Thanks to everyone who has posted.  This site is a mine of information and is going to help me enormously if/when I get the bike.

Hi Seagod and welcome to the forum.

Just picked up my new to me TTR yesterday and very pleased with it, bought from another forum member. I will keep everyone updated with my mod's and tidying over the next few months. It currently has a lowering link on it which I will soon be removing and selling on. Give me a shout if you want it.

Hi seadog, I'm 5'6" as well & now 66yrs old so it can be done, I don't use a lowering link but I have fallen over a few times when I stop but there is one advantage with the TTR over my WR, the seat, one easy to slide your bum across to touch the ground with one tiptoe & it's kinder on your body.

When riding you don't even notice the height, good luck with the search

Good to hear how you've adapted Terry.

I'm now the proud owner of a TTR250, courtesy of Phil (Peak). It arrived 2 hours ago and I've just been out for a quick brraaaap around the Test Valley. Loving it already.

Well done Seadog, glad you got one. Had a quick ride out tonight leaving the xt1200 at home, enjoying riding a light bike and taking in the surroundings.

Hello, you are in my neck of the woods it seems. I know the Plain extremely well so if you fancy a jaunt out when you are settled into the bike give me a shout. Although due to the lock down the poor TTr is fettled and living elsewhere awaiting an incentive to mot it. Enjoy the bike.

Thanks Herman.  I might take you up on the offer of a 'guided-tour' of the Plain when both our bikes are accessible (mine) and MOT'd (yours).  My TTR is jammed-in behind my Fireblade, which has a puncture and is very difficult to move.
