Loose cam chain symptoms

I'm suspicious that my cam chain is loose, what are noises that signify a loose cam chain? Or is the cam chain self adjusting?

Take the camshaft cover off and check the lines on the camshaft sprockets line up like in the photo when the engine is at TDC. If the lines are tilted over to any extent it shows the cam chain to be worn.

The TTR250 has a tensioner which makes automatic adjustments to take up any slack buy it can only do so much and when the chain is worn it should be replaced.
