starter problem
Permalink

Hi all TTr's battery died. No worries there it had done about 4 years. New one fitted eventually after managine with the kickstart for a bit and the starter just clicks. Thinking initially the battery might have not arrived fully charged I put it on charge to find it was fully charged??!! Ridng it didn't change things. Starter just clicked when pushed. Connections checked and nothing obvious. Any suggestions as to the possible cause appreciated. Dead keen to mark up my enduro track now that I am confined to quarters here in France. Regards Dunney

If the solenoid clicks but the starter does not work, check the solenoid by first making sure the TTR is out of gear and then bridge the two large terminals on the solenoid with a screwdriver. If the battery and starter are good then the engine should turn over. If they do then replace the solenoid. If they don't then you have a connection problem or need to check/replace the starter brushes.

I've got the same problem. It is intermittent tho. I find if I rock the bike back in gear she turns over and start. Not sure what is causing it but I'm gonna get to in in the next few weeks...

That sounds like starter motor brushes to me Michael.

Hello Stephen. I bought a new battery and just clicked. I checked everything. I advertised the second and the same. Only a third from another company works well all the time.

Moss, I think so too. I have a spare I'm gonna throw on in a couple of weeks.

I had the same problem a couple of months ago. The starter brushes had worn down to nothing.

Mine seems to click first start of the day, give it a hump on the kicker and she'll start on the button fine. Will then behave itself all day but will click the next time I have a go and the cycle repeats.

Had the starter off today and the brushes look good, clean with no rust and not sticking. Possible corrosion in the solenoid perhaps or something else maybe?

Thanks chaps. Sorry not to pass on thanks earlier. All helpful suggestions. Will report back how I get on. Just ordered a few other bits and once they are installed I will try and get to the bottom of this.

Not enjoying confinement here in France and very grateful that I have my own enduro track but no bike to enjoy it so as the clutch is apart (ahem) after too much abuse. Once its arrive and clutch is back together I am looking forward to getting muddy and then trying to sort out the magic button.
